    Built on the important consensus reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) is a non-profit Chinese-foreign cooperative university jointly founded by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Government, Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) with an independent legal entity status.


    Committed to building a world-class comprehensive and research-oriented university with distinctive strengths in its disciplines and global perspective, the University carries a glorious mission and a lofty mandate to nurture talents for the Belt & Road initiative, and dedicates herself into the development of elite education as well as high-level research and innovation activities. The University is determined to nurture high-caliber talents and achieve high quality academic excellence for China-Russia strategic cooperation and regional economic and social development.



    Shenzhen MSU-BIT University focuses on nurturing high-level talents through degree and non-degree education at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels. With a long-term goal of accommodating 5,000 students, the university maintains a balanced 1:1 ratio between undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate admissions commenced in 2017, followed by master's admissions in 2017 and doctoral admissions in 2018.


    The university conducts teaching in three languages: Chinese, Russian, and English. Domestic undergraduate admissions primarily adopt the “631” comprehensive evaluation model, while a limited number of general high school entrance examination plans are available in specific provinces and cities.


    I. Undergraduate Education

    Upon completion of their studies, undergraduate students receive degrees and diplomas from Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, with some specialized majors also being awarded degrees from the university.


    II. Graduate Education

    Graduate programs adhere to the training curriculum of Moscow University, and graduates receive master’s and doctoral degrees from Moscow University.


    III. International Student Education

    The university has been admitting international students since its inception.

Emphasizing a commitment to excellence, internationalization, and comprehensiveness, the university actively fosters the convergence and well-structured arrangement of academic disciplines. It positions itself as a premier national hub for nurturing talents in Sino-Russian cultural, educational, and technological collaboration in alignment with the "Belt and Road" initiative and the regional socio-economic advancement of the Greater Bay Area.



    The university has introduced 11 undergraduate majors, collaboratively launching 10 specialized master's programs and seven doctoral programs in partnership with Moscow State University. Notably, four undergraduate majors—Russian Language, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Materials Science and Engineering, and International Economics and Trade—have garnered recognition as top-tier undergraduate programs in Guangdong Province. In 2021, the university earned distinction as a pivotal institution for high-level disciplinary development in Guangdong Province, with four fields—Mathematics, Materials Science and Engineering, Biology, and Applied Economics—garnering key discipline designation within the province.

    The university's faculty comprises instructors selected from Moscow State University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and accomplished scholars recruited globally. Following the university's regulations, teachers designated by Moscow State University make up no less than 50% of the total faculty, while the global talent recruitment standard adheres to the "no less than the talent requirements of Moscow State University and Beijing Institute of Technology."


    Currently, the university boasts 546 full-time faculty members, with 266 coming from Moscow State University and 280 from Beijing Institute of Technology and other global recruitments (including 21 foreign nationals). Among the full-time teaching and research personnel, there are 410 individuals, including 258 from Moscow State University and 152 from Beijing Institute of Technology and global recruitment. Of these educators, 84% possess doctoral degrees, and 73% hold the rank of associate senior or higher.


    The university proudly features 14 foreign academicians, representing 2% of the world's eminent scientists. Additionally, it boasts one distinguished Professor under the Changjiang Scholars Program, two National Distinguished Experts through the Youth Program, one Provincial Pearl River Talent, two Provincial Silver Age Experts, one Provincial Overseas Master Teacher Team, 72 high-level municipal talents, and six individuals acclaimed with the titles of Provincial and Municipal Outstanding Education Advanced Person.
