On 13 September 2017, the first Sino-Russian cooperative university-Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, held the grand opening ceremony to begin its inaugural semester. Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin both sent congratulatory messages.
Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, Liu Yandong, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Guangdong Provincial Party Secretary, Hu Chunhua, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the P.R. China, Andrey Denisov, attended the opening ceremony, along with students of 2017 from Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, parent representatives, faculty members from MSU and BIT, and representatives from some universities.
