On the afternoon of October 24, the launch ceremony of the Fourth Knowledge Science and Culture Festival Open Week at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) was held in the university auditorium.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko and Academician Viktor Sadovnichy, President of Moscow State University, sent congratulatory messages via video. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished group of guests, including Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitskiy, Belarusian cosmonaut Marina Vasilevskaya, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Kirill Alekseevich Zikov, Academician and Professor at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University Artificial Intelligence Research Institute Leila Namazova-Baranova, Fan Weijun, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President (Vice Chair) of the Shenzhen Academy of Social Sciences, Li Hezhang, President of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, Sergey Ivanchenko, First Vice President and Chair of the Academic Committee, Chen Chaofeng, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, as well as Chinese and Russian scholars, government officials, and enterprise representatives.

Dmitry Chernyshenko delivered a video speech highlighting the Open Week of the Knowledge Science and Culture Festival, titled “Science Without Borders”, as a key prelude to the China-Russia Year of Education 2026–2027, jointly proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the Open Week, the public will have the opportunity to attend lectures by leading scholars, participate in practical courses and masterclasses, and engage in various business and creative activities. Chernyshenko highly praised Shenzhen MSU-BIT University as a flagship project in China-Russia educational cooperation and expressed gratitude to Moscow State University and Shenzhen MSU-BIT University for their support, extending his best wishes: “Wishing you success, inspiration, breakthrough ideas, and the courage to advance science!”

In his video remarks, Viktor Sadovnichy stated that hosting the “Science Without Borders” Open Week is a gift from Chinese and Russian universities to all who believe that “the development of science and civilization is the key foundation for international cooperation today.” He introduced the objectives and detailed arrangements of the Open Week, emphasizing a rich academic agenda that includes conferences, forums, and roundtable discussions focused on contemporary scientific frontiers. These activities not only highlight the interdisciplinary nature of research but also reveal the vast and intimate connections between science and daily life. He expressed his hope that the Open Week would continue the vibrant atmosphere of the recently concluded All-Russian Science Festival on Moscow State University’s campus and across Russia.

Li Hezhang, President of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, expressed sincere gratitude to Moscow State University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and other partners for their support and warmly welcomed the attending leaders, scholars, and entrepreneurs. He introduced the university’s initiative to host the annual Knowledge Science and Culture Festival since 2022 in partnership with Moscow State University and Beijing Institute of Technology. Structured around “Academics–Culture–Science Popularization”, the festival provides an open, inclusive platform that allows the public to learn while enjoying interactive activities. It deepens China-Russia exchange in education, science, and culture while offering youth from both countries a valuable space to broaden horizons, strengthen friendship, and inspire innovation. He also provided an overview of the Fourth Festival and the “Science Without Borders” Open Week, affirming that SMBU will continue to uphold the principles of openness, inclusivity, mutual learning, and win-win cooperation, advancing deeper collaboration between China and Russia in education, science, and culture.

The launch ceremony featured the stage play “Your Quantum Universe”. Centered on bilingual Chinese-Russian dialogue among four performers, the play creatively integrates real campus locations, such as the university library, to explain key concepts of quantum physics in accessible language. The storyline employs a “multiverse” theme, using scenarios of “entering parallel universes” to make abstract scientific concepts engaging. The performance also incorporated acrobatics, dance, music, and song, blending abstract quantum principles with expressive art, earning enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Li Hezhang, Leila Namazova-Baranova, Fan Weijun, and Sergey Ivanchenko jointly took the stage to ignite balloons filled with special gas in a science experiment, officially marking the start of the Fourth Knowledge Science and Culture Festival Open Week at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University.

The festival, themed “Your Quantum Universe”, is strongly supported by the Guangdong Academicians Association, Minsheng Bank, and other institutions. The “Science Without Borders” Open Week ran from October 20 to 26, with public access on October 25–26, offering citizens a science experience that is both academic and entertaining.

During the Open Week, Chinese and Russian scholars hosted academic seminars and reports, while Russian science and humanities teams presented unique “science shows”, interactive “masterclasses”, and other educational activities. Chinese and Russian artists staged multiple performances. Over a hundred activities allowed the public to explore cutting-edge science, enhance scientific literacy, and broaden international perspectives. Notably, this year the Open Week expanded its off-campus activities, extending science outreach to schools, science museums, commercial squares, and other venues. Through lectures, exhibitions, and interactive experiences, more citizens had the opportunity to experience the unique appeal of science up close.
