Professor Li Hezhang assumes office as the Rector of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University

Professor Li Hezhang, Member of the Standing Committee of CPC Beijing Institute of Technology Committee and Vice President of Beijing Institute of Technology is appointed as the rector of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU). The decision was approved bythe 11th board meeting of SMBU and announced at a meeting On May 9.

Chen Qiuming, Secretary of Education Work Committee of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Chief of the Education Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality together with Academician Xiang Changle, Deputy Secretary of the Standing Committee of CPC Beijing Institute of Technology Committee attended the meeting, joined by Tang Shuiyuan, Acting Rector of SMBU, Lu Wanwei, Secretary and Vice Rector of SMBU, Middle-Level management personnel, and representatives of all departments (centers). The meeting was chaired by Xu Jianling, Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Deputy Chief of the Education Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality.

Chen Qiuming first announced the resolution from the board of directors of SMBU on the appointment of Professor Li Hezhang as the rector of SMBU.

Acting Rector Tang Shuiyuan shared his fond memories, thoughts, and gratitude of working at the University over the past years, saying that it has been a great honor for him to work in this university that was established under the auspices of heads of state from China and Russia. He also expressed his gratitude to teachers at Moscow State University, students who are still studying online during the COVID-19 pandemic, and colleagues presented in the meeting. He was also thankful to the cooperation tripartite and Board of Directors for their high level of trust and will ensure a smooth transition. At last, he wished Shenzhen MSU-BIT University a bright future.

Professor Li Hezhang said that he was honored to serve as the succeeding rector of SMBU and appreciated the trust and support fromShenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and Shenzhen Municipal Government, Moscow State University and Beijing Institute of Technology as well as the Board of Directors of SMBU.He addressed thatShenzhen MSU-BIT University was established with the personal support from heads of state of China and Russia, andwith the devotion and support from all sides, the University has achieved huge progress in its development over the past few years. Also, he expressed his heartfelt thanks to Professor Tang Shuiyuan, Dr. Tarasov and Secretary Lu Wanwei as well as every staff who has contributed to the development of the University and noted that with the guidance and support of the cooperation tripartite as well as under the leadership of the Board of Directors led by Chairman Kalmykov, he will fulfill his obligation as the Rector alongside the University’s offices and departments to bring the University to the fast track of development, living up to the expectations of leaders and making good use of the resources provided by the three parties.

On behalf of Beijing Institute of Technology, Deputy Secretary Xiang Changle expressed appreciation towardsShenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and Shenzhen Municipal Government,and Moscow State University for their huge support for the University as well as the guidance and help from Bureau of Education of Shenzhen Municipality. He also paid tribute to Professor Tang Shuiyuan, Dr. Tarasov, Secretary Lu Wanwei and Academician Fang Daining for their contribution to the University’s development. On behalf of the CPC Beijing Institute of Technology Committee, he spoke highly of Professor Tang’s performance during his tenure and expressed thanks to his hard work. He also noted that Rector Li Hezhang has rich experience in university governance and is versed in coordinating administrative and academic affairs of a university. He believed that under the leadership of competent departments and SMBU Board of Directors and with the support and guidance of the three parties establishing the University, Rector Li will push forward the development of SMBU, live up to the expectations of SMBU students, three founders and the society as a whole and achieve goals of the University as soon as possible.

On behalf of the Education Work Committee of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and the Education Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, Chen Qiuming expressed sincere thanks to Acting Rector Tang Shuiyuan for his hard work and significant contributions for over a year, and extended warm congratulations and heartfelt thanks to Rector Li Hezhang. He believed that under the leadership of Rector Li Hezhang, the University will enter the fast track of high-level and high-quality development. He also hoped that the University will implement important instructions of the heads of state of China and Russia, seize the historic opportunity of development to deepen system and mechanism reform and facilitate the development of the University. Besides, he also said that the University shall step up its party building work as a Chinese-foreign cooperative university according to national rules and regulations and provide strong intellectual support for the development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Pilot Demonstration Area of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics. He also added that Education Work Committee of CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and the Education Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality will continue to fully support the development of the institution, working together to turn SMBU into a leading international university.
