Welcoming the New with Heart: Thoughtful Services Ease the Journey to SMBU
Early in the morning, buses carrying new students arrived one after another at the welcome stations of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University. Stepping onto campus, students and parents were immediately greeted by a festive atmosphere: vibrant banners and signs stretched across the grounds, cheerful volunteers helped carry luggage and answered questions, and a special rest area was prepared for parents. From all corners of the country, the new arrivals felt warmly embraced by the university community.

After completing ID verification, students received their campus cards and medical examination forms before proceeding to their respective faculties and centers for registration and fee payment. Many paused at the welcome photo stations to capture their very first memory of life at SMBU. To ensure a smooth process, the university placed great emphasis on careful planning. A special coordination meeting was convened to arrange all aspects of the welcome work, guaranteeing a convenient, orderly, and safe start for the incoming class. Dedicated reception points were set up at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and Shenzhen North Railway Station, offering free shuttle buses to campus. Directional signs were placed at the university gates, student residences, and the sports complex to guide new arrivals. “The first impression I had when I arrived was how warm and welcoming it felt. The seniors and volunteers were so helpful—I’m really looking forward to my new life at SMBU,” several freshmen shared.

This year, SMBU once again implemented a “one-stop registration” system, allowing students to complete all procedures efficiently. Each newcomer also received a welcome package, including a university T-shirt, student handbook, customized passport holder, luggage tag, eco-friendly tote, mosquito repellent, and other practical items. The thoughtful details reflected the university’s care for every student. For those applying through the “Green Channel” financial aid service, the university even provided a suitcase filled with essential study materials and daily necessities.

Meanwhile, the Admissions Office and Academic Affairs Department set up service desks at the registration sites, providing guidance on academic preparation, campus life, and other common concerns. Their professional support ensured that every student could begin their university journey with confidence and peace of mind.

University Leadership Welcomes New Students with Care and High Expectations
During the registration period, President Hezhang Li, First Vice President Sergey N. Ivanchenko, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission Chaofeng Chen, and other university leaders visited welcome stations and student dormitories to warmly greet members of the Class of 2025. They extended heartfelt congratulations to the new students and expressed appreciation to the faculty, staff, and student volunteers supporting the orientation. In his conversations, President Li inquired about students’ chosen majors and personal interests, encouraging them to cherish their time at university, dedicate themselves to academic inquiry, cultivate a deep sense of national pride, and remain steadfast in their commitment to serving the country.

That evening, the 2025 Parents’ Meeting and the Second SMBU Parents’ Academy were held simultaneously in the university auditorium and the library’s first-floor multimedia room. The event was attended by President Hezhang Li, Deputy Party Secretary Chaofeng Chen, Leonid V. Gusev, Vice Rector of Moscow State University, and Evgeny A. Bobkov, Assistant to the Vice Rector, as well as parents of incoming students, university department heads, counselors, departmental secretaries, and moral education mentors. On behalf of the university, President Li delivered a welcome address. Vice Rector Gusev conveyed congratulations on behalf of Academician Viktor A. Sadovnichy, Rector of Moscow State University, celebrating the enrollment of SMBU’s new students. Representatives of various university departments also briefed parents on talent cultivation initiatives, recent research progress, international exchange programs, and the joint efforts of the university and families to support students’ mental health and well-being.

Following registration, SMBU will roll out a series of orientation and induction programs designed to help new students integrate fully into university life and embark on the next chapter of their personal and academic journeys.
Admissions Highlights: Four New Trends in SMBU’s 2025 Undergraduate Enrollment
In 2025, undergraduate admissions at Shenzhen MSU-BIT University displayed four emerging trends. The university steadily expanded its enrollment, admitting 1,063 new undergraduates nationwide, an increase of 126 compared with last year, including 986 students from mainland China and 77 students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan through the Joint Admissions Program. The range of academic programs also broadened, with the launch of a new dual-degree major in Physical Geography and Natural Resources. The quality of admitted students continued to rise. In the comprehensive evaluation admissions, the average entrance score of physics-track candidates from “3+1+2” provinces and candidates from “3+3” provinces exceeded the special admissions threshold by 38.7 points, representing a 10.2-point improvement from the previous year. For history-track candidates from “3+1+2” provinces, the average was about 26 points higher than the threshold. In 13 provinces under the general admissions category, the minimum entrance score on average stood 120 points above the undergraduate cut-off line. For Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan admissions, the lowest score among science-track students exceeded the threshold by 57 points, 12 points higher than last year, while the lowest score among humanities-track students exceeded it by 49 points, 18 points higher than last year. SMBU’s strong appeal within the “dual-zone advantage” of Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area has also become increasingly evident. In Guangdong Province alone, the university admitted 356 students, an increase of 99 from the previous year. Nearly 60 percent were from Shenzhen, and students from Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, and Dongguan together accounted for more than 85 percent of the provincial intake, underscoring SMBU’s position as a preferred destination for Greater Bay Area students.
