Recently, the results of the 2025 National Social Science Fund of China (NSSF) annual project selection were officially announced. The research project titled “A Study on the Coal Supply Problem in Modern Guangdong (1895–1949)”, proposed by Dr. Mo Wanjuan, lecturer at the School of Marxism, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University, has been successfully approved as a Youth Fund Project, marking the university’s first-ever NSSF project—a milestone achievement in its research development.
The project explores the structural evolution of Guangdong’s coal supply system between 1895 and 1949 from the three dimensions of production, circulation, and distribution. It aims to reveal the dynamic role of Guangdong’s port economy in modern times and the key challenges it faced during the process of industrialization.
The School of Marxism at SMBU places strong emphasis on scientific research, encouraging faculty members to engage with the frontiers of scholarship, increasing research investment, and actively promoting project applications. These efforts have effectively advanced the integration of teaching and research across the university. This successful project approval reflects SMBU’s steady progress and growing strength in the field of humanities and social sciences, laying a solid foundation for future applications for high-level national research programs.
